Sandy, a nice theory. Las Vegas, NM--once the state&#039;s largest city--had several daily newspapers by 1900, but none named the Herald. One was the Gazette, the other the Optic. The Optic is still published twice weekly. Its most notable alum is a journalist from Michigan named William Chon. He later changed his name and moved to New York City, where he joined a weekly magazine and stayed 53 years, most of that time as its editor: William Shawn of The New Yorker.]]></description>
